North Carolina: Anxious, Apprehensive, even Agitated may all be words that describe the feelings of a student on College Decision week, the much anticipated week when universities and colleges release the decision on whether you have been accepted or not. I, like all other high school seniors, was no different. It was March 30, 2016 at 3:58 pm. I sat at my desk, laptop out, impatiently refreshing the page to check if a decision had been released or not. Today, my top choice school would release all acceptance letters. After thirteen years of school,SAT’s, all night study sessions, various extracurricular activities, and many many prayers later, this moment could change my life forever. And then it happened. The computer went blank for a moment and then opened up my letter. It read “ It gives us great pleasure to offer you admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill”. I reread the letter five times, before running down the stairs to tell my mother. I felt as though God had answered all of my prayers. My gratitude and appreciation for God was unparalleled. What later ensued was a frenzy of phone calls, congratulations, and celebrating. I could hardly believe that I had been accepted into my top choice school. For me, the most rewarding feeling was not that i had been accepted into a prestigious university, but the fact that I had made my parents proud. They could hold their head up high, and knowing that I had not disappointed them was the true reason for my happiness. Now, all that was left to do was, well a whole lot of preparation.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was the first ever public university, and is ranked thirty-nine in the world for best universities. Highly competitive and academically rigorous, UNC Chapel Hill is one of the most sought-after universities in the nation. Many call the public ivy-league university (the ivy-league experience, with the public university price). In the previous year, Aziz Sancar, a professor at UNC Chapel Hill won the Nobel Prize for chemistry. There have been many notable alumni at UNC Chapel Hill as well. For example, the Michael Jordan, and Andy Griffith. The long list of achievements, prestigious title and the Carolina Pride were only a few of the reasons why I chose UNC Chapel Hill. I know that the next four years at my new home will be memorable ones. I hope that UNC Chapel Hill will prepare me to be a successful and impactful individual who can bring forth their talents in bettering humanity. Go Tar Heels!
